FRAGMENTS

While abroad in 2024, without access to my usual sculptural materials, I focused on developing new techniques in Blender and experimenting with 3D printing. This time allowed me to explore the manipulation and reassembly of figurative forms, using iPhone scans and a 3D model of Octavia E. Butler I had created for a previous artwork.

I applied patinas to certain pieces to enhance their textures, while others were intentionally left in their raw, unpainted PLA state. This approach preserved the 3D print grooves, filament remnants, and structural supports, highlighting the process behind the work.

These fragments embrace the expressive potential of artificial materials, fully acknowledging their transformation from physical to digital and back to physical.

Materials: 3D prints (PLA), acrylic paints, oxidized metallic powder
