Beneath the Surface I, II

Beneath the Surface I and II are a series of small-scale sculptures that combines satellite imagery with wooden stakes and metal straws, disrupting the conventional depiction of landscapes.

In Beneath the Surface I, the use of black skewers conjures an image reminiscent of porcupine quills, subtly concealing the once-prominent crop circles. Contrastingly, the metal straws in Beneath the Surface II transform the terrain into a long-legged creature, exuding an almost comical, perhaps inebriated stance.

The deliberate act of puncturing the surface serves as an artistic metaphor, aiming to kindle curiosity about the obscured systems of groundwater extraction, especially within the realm of modern agriculture and center-pivot irrigation.

Beneath the Surface invites viewers to reconsider the familiar and ponder the intricate, often overlooked, environmental complexities at play beneath the surface of our daily landscapes.
