Encounter

Encounter features three geometric humanoid sculptures. Directly in front of the figures are microphones and a list of words. The microphones beckon viewers to fill the silence. Reading certain words trigger calm footage, reading others trigger violent footage.

As participants explore the outcome of naming and renaming, Encounter reminds us that relationships between people (and other living beings) are not inevitable or fixed. If we are willing to reframe our relationships to “others,” is the key to changing patterns of interaction.
